A Tribute to Sam Adams, the new Mayor of Portland, OR

This is Sam Adams:

No, not the beer. Not the Founding Father. He is the new bike-riding, grassroots-oriented Mayor of Portland, Oregon, and he also happens to be gay. Many Portland residents found him appealing because of his commitment to their interests and beliefs - the arts and environmentalism among many other things.

He was sworn into office on January 5, 2009, and will serve as the first openly gay mayor of a major US city.

A small victory indeed, and if he does his job well, could he be the country's first openly gay governor, or *gasp* senator?
