Ridiculous Interviews = Musical Goldmine?

So, anyone who knows me knows that I have a soft spot for Antoine Dodson (I wrote an entry on him a while back - you can check it out here). However, late last year there was another criminal story covered by yet another television station that also became an Internet sensation. I think they should put Diana and Antoine together and send them on a national tour across the country.

Here is the original clip:

Now, for the remix:

And here is a story on what happened after. So epic! Although the song featured in the follow-up story is not the same as the one I enjoyed, it just goes to show you that 2011 will be a goldmine for auto-tune and the news. Read more!

Antoine Dodson and the American Dream

So, anyone who knows me well knows I am obsessed with Internet memes. This one, however, has spiraled out of control because of its ridiculous popularity.

This was Antoine Dodson's introduction into the world of the Internet - in interviews since, he has stated that he never in a million years thought his recounting of an attempted rape of his sister would ever be so well-received ... and, well, hilarious.

Here it is:

Now, those nice boys who "Autotune the News" (the Gregory Brothers) became instantaneous fans, and saw an opportunity to create a song out of Dodson's interview. The song became an instant hit, and even sells on iTunes now. Crazy, right? Here's the song:

Amazing. It has since taken it to the next level - that's right, a performance on live TV at the 2010 BET Awards. So proud of you, Dodson, my boy! Watch the performance here, with one of the Gregory Brothers. Love it!

Enjoy! And believe it - dreams really do come true! Read more!

Justin Bieber is a presumptuous little piece of shit

Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light

Back in 2005, the Scissor Sisters were my shit. I was obsessed with them. They rocked my world. I am pleased to hear that their third album is coming out in June, with one of the songs, "Invisible Light," being leaked this month. Check it out, tell me what you think ... think they're BACK back, or just back?

Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler VS. Dove Onslaught

I don't know if I've ever put this video on here, but if I have, it was a long long time ago. I love this video. It says so much about our perception of beauty, it speaks on consumerism, and all the while a fabulous disco beat plays in the background. Enjoy! I mean, come on - who doesn't love hot chicks puking on each other?

In contrast, I'd like to put up one of my favorite TV commercials of all time, which is only overshadowed by the fact that it is selling a product, just like the things it seems to argue against. I think its a brilliant deception.

It really makes you think. Read more!

She Wolf Vs. He Wolf

I like doing these "versus" things. Keeps things fresh.

So, since I'm on both a "versus" and Shakira kick, lets combine the two ... the first clip is the official music video for Shakira's "She Wolf," while the second is for a copy-cat's rendition ... only he's a boy. Its pretty legit, though - the costume, the shot-for-shot reenactment. I'm almost tempted to give the award to He Wolf, if only because Shakira is just gyrating as usual, whereas he's actually having to duplicate those ridiculous moves!

Update: The Diva Playlist

For some reason, I've been really into chick pop lately. And it goes without saying that I've downloaded some Lady Gaga... thats more of a given being a gay man.

However, more shocking is how Beyoncé and Shakira have found their way onto my iPod (which is on the fritz as we speak, probably in large part because of the influx of divaness). So, in order to demonstrate the cultural identity crisis that my workout playlist has been undergoing, here it is, in full drag regalia and all:

1. Chromeo - "Night by Night"
2. France Joli - "Gonna Get Over You"
3. Girls - "Lust for Life"
4. Donna Allen - "Serious"
5. Metronomy - "A Thing For Me"
6. Black Peter Group - "Goody Two Shoes"
7. Katy Perry - "Hot and Cold"
8. Lady Gaga ft. Beyoncé - "Telephone"
9. Penguin Prison - "A Funny Thing"
10. Phoenix - "1901"
11. Taylor Swift - "You Belong to Me"
12. LMFAO - "Shots"
13. Avril Lavigne - "The Best Damn Thing"
14. Voxtrot - "Berlin, Without Return..."
15. Avril Lavigne - "Girlfriend"
16. Cut Copy - "Hearts on Fire"
17. Miami Horror - "Make You Mine"
18. Saves the Day - "Firefly"
19. The Presets - "This Boy's in Love"
20. Tiga - "You Gonna Want Me"
21. Shakira - "She Wolf"
22. The Walkmen - "The Rat"
23. Beyoncé - "Irreplaceable"
24. Britney Spears - "Toxic"
25. Weezer - "The Girl Got Hot"

Its like my soul inside of me is fighting an uphill battle against itself. What will prosper?

I think DC has done this to me.

But then I think about Melissa, and I'm like - damn, this girl has been like this her entire life. :) Love you, boo. Read more!

Gravy Train!!!! VS Girls VS The Younger Lovers

When I was a senior in high school, I was obsessed with a local San Francisco band called Gravy Train!!!!. Since growing up, their music still resonates with me, although the lyrics, "I go to the high school/I go to the high school/to find me a bitch/a young virgin switch" now borders on pedophilia. Since then, the members of Gravy Train!!!! have also since moved on, the two male leads continuing with their musical endeavors. Hunx is now part of the band called Girls, while Funx (or Brontez) has become the voice of The Younger Lovers.

Get ready for all the things that make you uncomfortable about gay people, and tell me which musical style you like best.

Sorry for the insane hiatus, but I promise to try to make it up to you. And now - a little piece on Kanye, becuase you know that if I were at full-blown blogging capacity, I would have covered the Taylor Swift/Kanye/stage-crashing Lil Mama episodes here.

Joni Mitchell - California

I've been listening to this song non-stop and it goes along with the depressing music slump that I've been in lately. This one holds a special place in my heart, too, because its about my home state, and wanting to go back despite seeing the world. I have a feeling this song will be more significant to me after I come back from Europe. Enjoy. Her voice is so ... I don't know, does "pure" sound too hippy?

Music Video Featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel

The video is for Zooey Deschanel's musical outfit She and Him's latest single. The song is called, "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here," and features some brilliant dancing by both stars.

You'll be stunned to see JGL do two backflips in succession, and Deschanel's moves are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Mika - We Are Golden

Finally, it's arrived ... Mika's new album. But like almost everything that is highly anticipated (at least, in the world of Julian A.), it is a bit of a let-down. I mean, what the hell is this song? Where is the chorus? Where is the bridge? I'm all for unconventionality, but this song is the musical equivalent of Alexis Arquette - a hot hot mess.

Check it out. At least we get to see him dancing around in some hot shoes and his undies.

Edit: because of copyright laws, the official music video and song have been taken down. Here is a Calvin Harris remix of the video and song.

Is Michael Jackson Dead?

Is Michael Jackson Dead?
By Julian Aldana

Technology is so screwed up these days. I’m so connected to everyone, to everything – to my first great love in pictures with his cute boyfriend on a cute vacation; to the news of Heidi Montag’s last turd. You know what, world? I don’t really care. And no matter how many Facebook friends I delete in order to send them to an e-place-where-I-never-have-to-think-about-them-ever-again, Gmail never deletes my emails. And more people from days past come trickling in requesting invites into my world like vampires at the doorstep.

At this moment, I don’t know if Michael Jackson is dead or alive. And everyone is talking about it. I keep hitting refresh on Google, but TMZ is the only source claiming that MJ has horizontally moonwalked on his last six-year-old boy.

And Twitter? Forget about Twitter. I can picture Beyoncé and Perez Hilton and Pope Benedict XVI all feverishly typing away on their iPhones and Blackberries, dying to tell the public what they think about it, or how much he’ll be missed. My best friend was just laid off today, and I can’t share my condolences with him on Twitter because, oh, Twitter has just crashed. Thanks, Perez. Now I’ll have to CALL him.

Usually, when the country isn’t afflicted by a national catastrophe like it is today, I have about five ways to get in touch with my friends without actually making a phone call. Today, there is only one. And as messed up as the world is – as blurry as the lines have become, with everyone having Fakebooks to leer in each other’s faces – there is something satisfying about being that close, yet being so unavailable.

So rather than a question of Michael Jackson being dead or alive, insert “friendship” where the King of Pop’s name should be, and what do you have? A moment of clarity? A realization that, because of the Internet, we have more friends and even more acquaintances than we ever had before, yet we are lonelier and less connected than ever.

The days of calling up a friend just to “chat” have translated to the pop-ups of AIM, and the swinging by a neighbor’s house to see how they’re doing has turned into a status update or a text message. Facebook has stolen our faces. Twitter has tweaked out socialization entirely. We rest the weight of our friendships and relationships on our fingers, and on how heavily and quickly they can hit the buttons on a keyboard.

We are so available that we can never be bothered. And like Mr. Jackson, too much exposure probably drives us all “off the wall.”

The Times has just pronounced MJ dead. RIP. Read more!

MJ

Everyone right now is talking about Michael Jackson being dead right now.

And the only source that says that Michael Jackson is dead is TMZ.

Come on people, pull it together.

I'll probably have to follow this post up with another that says either A) TMZ was correct and/or B) you are all idiots, but please, peeps, check your sources.

Even Wikipedia, which is notorious for being wrong, has not killed the King of Pop off just yet. So hold your horses. I mean, if Wikipedia can, why can't you? Read more!
